In early November I got to opportunity to do some personal work while I was in New York. I teamed up with some amazing people who came together on a beauty shoot to produce some fantastic results!
I met Adoch through a fellow photographer some time ago and it turned out we both admired each other’s work, so we definitely had to do a shoot together. Adoch introduced me to one of her friends Iris, owner and designer of The Urban Maasai who do some of the most beautiful traditional African scarfs and head wraps. This set the perfect scene for us to do an African themed beauty shoot to showcase these wonderful pieces and the beautiful dark skin Adoch possesses. I contacted a very talented makeup artist, Aida, to enhance the look of the shoot with her artistry. The jewelry used in the shoot were made by jewelry designers Those Brothers. We did the shoot at Steve Selman Photography Studio, in Brooklyn New York. Steve, who is a fellow photographer and excellent fine art nude photographer, also assisted me on the shoot. We had a fun, creative experience that resulted in som fantastic images!
I used a variation of two to three lights on a black backdrop for this shoot. The main light was a socked beauty dish which I coupled with two lights with soft boxes as the modifiers to provide some separation. The dark backdrop helped to make the very colorful scarfs pop to display their true beauty. The setup used can be seen in the diagram at the end of the post.
Below are the fantastic photographs that were captured from this wonderful beauty photography session!
