In early December 2014 I teamed up with a Jamaican designer Kimandamisses to do a fashion shoot on the streets of Kingston Jamaica. The fashion shoot featured clothing from her Unparalleled female line, a mix of classy yet sexy for the modern working woman. The location for the shoot was very fitting for her clothing line as we selected New Kingston, the financial hub of Jamaica. Our models for the day were Jessica Barrett and Monique Amelya, two wonderful freelance models based in Kingston Jamaica. The team for the day was the talented makeup artist Antoinette “Sashii” Bailey of Awaken Anew U Beauty Studio, creative assistant Tanisha Ennis and Jamie Barnett who assisted on the shoot.
The shoot was originally planned for late afternoon, however, due to unforeseen circumstances we started pretty much after sunset. This provided a challenge to lighting as it was now dark, nevertheless, we overcame the lack of sunlight by using the ambient light provided by the urban lighting and filled with a speedlight. In order to get as much ambient light as possible for the background I bumped up the ISO on my Nikon D800 to ISO 1600 and employed a slower shutter speed varying between 1/160s to 1/60s. We employed the use of my Nikon SB-910 speedlight at a very low power and diffused by a Paul C. Buff PLM Soft Silver Umbrella, held high above the models, to give a pleasing and somewhat natural looking fill light.
We had a great shoot on the streets of New Kingston and got some fantastic photographs despite the challenges of shooting in low lit conditions. Here are the images from our wonderful fashion shoot!
