In late December 2014 I teamed up with Jamaican model and a former beauty queen Roshelle McKinley, talented makeup artist Samantha Hitchener and my creative assistant Tanisha Ennis to do a creative beauty shoot. We explored three creative concepts, a remake of a shot with tears made from makeup, a creative look with stones and the look, that was submitted to the New York based Elléments Magazine, titled “Caged Beauty”. Each of these three concepts posed some challenge in executing, but being the creative team we are, we found ways to workaround the hurdles to produce some fantastic images.
The photo shoot was done using a basic clamshell lighting achieved with a Paul C. Buff AlienBees B800 in a Fotodiox 16 inch beauty dish and an silver 5-in-1 reflector. I used my Nikon SB-700 to light the backdrop and my SB-910 as a kick light on the model. The photos were shot with the Nikon D800 and Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 lens which produced images with sharp impeccable details. The lighting diagram can be seen at the end of this post.
Below are the images from the set titles “Caged Beauty”, which was published in the New York based Elléments Magazine Art Issue January 2015. I have also added the outtakes which feature the other two creative looks done on this shoot.
